City of Chester

I was born in a city called Chester. It is a very old place which became a Roman fortress for a time about 2000 years ago. You can still see some of the remains of the old Roman buildings such as the Amphitheatre and the walls which surround the centre. There is a large gothic cathedral in the centre of the city, next to the town hall and also there are many shops in the town centre some of which are arranged in what is called "The Rows" whereby they are built on top of each other. Apparently this dates back to Mediaeval times as does the practice of painting building in black and white. There is also a small river which runs through the centre of town which is called the Dee and South Western side there is the oldest horse racing course in the country.
